The Fires In California

On January 7th, the unimaginable happened. The fires that began a day earlier in Pacific Palisades reached Malibu faster than anyone could have anticipated. Early Wednesday morning at 5:38AM, we realized the flames were dang close to our property about 2-3 miles away. By 6:10 AM, we had no choice but to begin evacuating our animals, belongings, and ourselves.

Our CEO’s Malibu property, home to two houses and countless memories, was at the center of this crisis. One house was where the animals lived – our horses, and, of course, Myka and Morris, the donkeys you have came to love. As the fire spread to the front and backyards, it became a race against time to save them all.

Thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of our community, including a friend named Joe who arrived on his motorcycle to assist, we were able to evacuate the animals to safety. You can see the dramatic rescue unfold in our first video.

While one home was tragically lost, through determination and persistence, along with some firm requests to the fire department, we managed to save the second home. This was no small feat, and it is a testament to the resilience and strength of our team, our friends, and our community.
