At Mulholland Brand, our mission has always been to protect what matters most. We design and build fencing, gates, and outdoor solutions that offer not just beauty and security — but also resilience.
That’s why we were honored when the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) approached us following the Eaton and Pacific Palisades wildfires.
During post-fire assessments conducted in coordination with CAL FIRE, IBHS teams came across properties where they noticed Mulholland Brand aluminum fences.
“During our field deployment, we noticed metal fences with your company’s name on them, and that is why I am reaching out to you now,”
— Steve Hawks, Senior Director for Wildfire at IBHS
We appreciated being contacted as part of IBHS’s ongoing efforts to understand how different materials perform in wildfire conditions.
It reinforced the importance of thoughtful design and material choice in challenging environments like California.
In 2017, as part of our commitment to providing long-lasting, low-maintenance solutions, we chose to focus on aluminum — a material known for its durability, corrosion resistance, and minimal upkeep.
An added benefit of this decision is that aluminum is non-combustible, offering greater resilience in fire-prone environments compared to traditional materials like wood or vinyl.
As part of Wildfire Preparedness Week 2025, we’ve been invited to contribute to a live demonstration burn hosted by IBHS and CAL FIRE at the San Diego County Fire Training Center in Spring Valley.
A Mulholland Brand aluminum fence panel will be featured at the event to help illustrate how using more resilient materials — like aluminum — can contribute to safer rebuilding in wildfire-prone areas.
While no material is fireproof, thoughtful choices can help reduce risks and improve a property’s ability to withstand harsh conditions.
The demonstration will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, and is expected to be covered by local and regional media as part of a broader effort to raise awareness about wildfire preparedness.
We encourage all homeowners — especially those in wildfire-prone areas — to follow Wildfire Preparedness Week 2025 and take the opportunity to learn how wise material choices and proper planning can make a real difference in protecting their homes and communities.
